Hunter Davis, a patient transporter at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, has been named Employee of the Year for Large Business by the Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.
Davis is a graduate of the 2021-2022 Etowah County Project SEARCH class, which is based at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. As part of the program, Davis interned in the hospital's cafeteria and as a patient transporter. Shortly after that, he was offered a job in transport. Penny Dobbins, director of imaging and transport at Gadsden Regional, says, "Over these past 2 1/2 years, he has grown into a cornerstone of our team, consistently going above and beyond to ensure that patients receive the best possible care during their transport."
Davis was honored earlier this week with a reception at the hospital, which included the presentation of special proclamations by the Etowah County Commission and the Gadsden City Council.
Project SEARCH is a free, unique, business-led transition program for young adults ages 18-24 who are currently experiencing life with a developmental or physical disability. It allows individuals who want to work to explore careers and develop transferable job skills through an internship at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Project SEARCH places young adults in real-world situations where they learn all aspects of gaining and maintaining a job. This immersion process facilitates the teaching and learning of new work skills on an actual worksite.
Etowah County Project SEARCH is supported by a variety of community partners, including the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden State Community College, ARC of Jackson County, Gadsden Career Center, Alabama Department of Mental Health, and East AlabamaWorks.
